The first IDENTITIES Summer School will be organized by the University of Crete (UoC) from June 28th to July 2nd, 2021. It was planned to be conducted in Rethymno at the University of Crete Research Center for the Humanitites, the Social and Education Sciences (UCRS) but, due to the pandemic emergency, it will be held completely online.
The aim of the summer school is to implement, with preservice teachers, the innovative teaching modules on interdisciplinarity in STEM fields that have been developed by the partners in the first half of the project. Therefore, 25 preservice teachers will participate in the summer school (five from the institute of each partner). Students will have science, mathematics or computer science background as well as some experience or motivation regarding science and mathematics education. Furthermore, 21 researchers from the cooperating institutes will participate in the summer school both as trainers of the preservice teachers and as trainees of the other researchers. Since the summer school is targeted to preservice teachers enrolled in master programs of the partner institutions, unsolicited applications will not taken into consideration.
During the summer school, students will engage both with curricular topics and advanced STEM topics in order to recognize the specific contribution that the different disciplines can provide giving a special focus on the interplay among physics, mathematics and computer science.
Students will be divided in two groups that will work in parallel on different types of activities. In particular, they will engage in the role of explorers, students and analysts of interdisciplinarity. Each group will explore an advanced STEM topic (O2 topic) and a curricular topic (O3 topic).
The O2 topics are
- coronavirus evolution (leader: University of Barcelona)
- nanotechnologies (leader: University of Crete)
The O3 topics are
- cryptography (leader: University of Montpellier)
- parabola and parabolic motion (leaders: University of Bologna and University of Parma)
In addition to the preservice teachers’ summer school, a professional development course for researchers and teacher educators will be held. The aim is of this summer school is the familiarization of all the partners with the teaching modules and their interdisciplinary approaches.
In order to to reinforce students’ long-term cooperation, social events will take place. For further information about the structure and the schedule of the summer school, see the preliminary program.
