IDENTITIES Summer School in Barcelona

The second IDENTITIES Summer School will be organized by the University of Barcelona (UB) from June 27th to July 1st, 2022, and will be held in person at the Faculty of Education of the UB.

The aim of the summer school is to implement, with preservice teachers, the innovative teaching modules on interdisciplinarity in STEM fields that have been developed by the partners during the project. Therefore, 25 preservice teachers will participate in the summer school (five from each partner’s institution). Students will have a disciplinary background in physics, mathematics, or computer science as well as experience or motivation regarding science and mathematics education. Furthermore, 21 researchers from the five project institutions will participate in the summer school both as trainers of the preservice teachers and as trainees of the other researchers. Since the summer school is targeted at preservice teachers enrolled in master’s programs of the partner institutions, unsolicited applications will not be taken into consideration.

During the summer school, students will engage both with curricular and advanced STEM topics to recognize the specific contribution that the different disciplines can provide, focusing on the interplay among physics, mathematics and computer science.

Students will be divided into two groups that will work in parallel on different types of activities. In particular, they will engage in the role of explorers, students and analysts of interdisciplinarity. Each group will explore an advanced STEM topic (O2 topic) and a curricular topic (O3 topic).

The O2 topics are:

  • Modelling the coronavirus evolution (leader: University of Barcelona)
  • Complexity of Climate Change (leaders: University of Crete and University of Bologna)

The O3 topics are

  • Cryptography (leaders: University of Bologna and University of Montpellier)
  • Epistemology and linguistics (leaders: University of Montpellier and University of Bologna)

In addition to the preservice teachers’ summer school, a professional development course for researchers and teacher educators will be held. The aim of this summer school is the familiarization of all the partners with the teaching modules and their interdisciplinary approaches.

In order to reinforce students’ long-term cooperation, social events will take place. For further information about the structure and the schedule of the summer school, see the preliminary program in the picture below or take a look at the leaflet:
